COMM

Michael watches as three operatives are swiftly walking down a hallway.
Michael: Hey Chuck. What's with the hair?
Chuck: I had to do something. I was starting to look like you.
Michael smiles in response. The three operatives enter a transport vehicle. Nikita comes running down the hallway.)
Nikita: Chuck! (Chuck turns to her.) Here's your pack. Walter fixed your headset so you won't get any more dropouts.
Chuck: We're gonna miss you out there.
Nikita: Guess they thought we had too much fun together the last time.
Michael: Remember, our priority here is the trigger. We have to get it off the street. If that's under control, then we can go for Wicke. When the deal goes down, you'll receive your signal. Bring me that trigger.
Chuck winks at Nikita and the team boards the transport.

WICKE'S HOUSE

A fire is blazing in the fireplace. John is on the phone.
John: Did you make the delivery?
Voice: Yeah. I just handed it to him.
John: Good. (John hangs up.)

MISSION VAN

Chuck is walking in the dark with the briefcase. Switch to Madeline, Michael, Birkoff, and Nikita in Comm at Section. They watch Chuck and the two operatives on computer screens.
Voice: He's in.
Michael: With the trigger?
Voice: With the trigger. We're checking it out now.
Operations looks down from the Perch.
Voice: It's all here. (pause) Hold on a minute, Michael.
Michael: What's wrong?
Chuck: It's not a real trigger.
Michael: What is it?
Chuck: It's a bomb.
Michael: Can you defuse it?
Chuck: We're on it now.
The team tries to analyze the wires.
Voice: It's not reading. These are dummy wires.

WICKE'S HOUSE - COMM

Helen and John are sitting comfortably in Wicke's living room.
Helen: How did it go?
John: We're almost done.
John pulls out a telephone and taps in the number 10 to activate the bomb.
Switch to the team as seen on the computer screen at Section.
Chuck: It's been activated.
Countdown clock shows six seconds remaining.
Michael: Evacuate. Now.
Chuck: There's no time.
On computer screen the countdown goes to 0 then the screen switches to noise.
Michael: Chuck? Chuck, are you there?
Birkoff shakes his head. Madeline stares without moving. Nikita rises in shock.
Helen: Who were they?
John: We may never know.
Madeline: (angry) Bring in everyone. This is now priority one.
Michael, Madeline and Birkoff leave the area in different directions. Nikita continues to stare in shock at the snowy computer screen with tears in her eyes.

BRIEFING ROOM

Operations: The people who are responsible for the loss of life two days ago, John and Helen Wicke. (Operations turns on the hologram displaying info about and photos of the Wickes.) They've been dealing arms internationally since 1984. Their activity was mostly limited to class two or three explosives. We believe now, however, that they're in possession of a nuclear trigger. It's a classified device. It's just as valuable as a warhead itself. (Operations turns off hologram and stands.) These people trust no one but each other. (Camera focuses on Michael who swallows heavily and looks at the ceiling.) Until now, they seemed invincible. (Operations looks directly at Nikita.) But we believe we've found a weakness.
Nikita stares up with a question in her eyes.

BUREAU OF SOCIAL SERVICES

Front of "Bureau of Social Services" building. A collection of homeless people are gathered around a fire in a trash can. Nikita walks up in ragged clothes. Nikita walks into the building, passing a sign that reads: SHELTER - HOSPICE GÉNÉRAL. Switch to inside the shelter. Nikita is shown to a chair in front of a table.
Worker: Name?
Nikita: Nikita.
Worker: (writing on form) Nikita... ?
Nikita: Just Nikita.
Worker: Look, to qualify for food and shelter, you gotta answer me a few questions, OK? Place of birth?

WICKE'S HOUSE

Mark, Helen and John are sharing wine looking quite pleased with themselves. Dog barks in the background.
Mark: It was easy John. After I left Uzbekistan, I flew to Greece. Faginson printed me up a new passport and here I am.
John: The trigger was with you the whole time?
Mark: Never left my sight, John. There's no way anyone can put me there.
Helen: Mark. Can I get you another drink?
Mark: No. I'm fine, Helen. I have to catch a flight. Thanks.
John: Do you have the key?
Mark: Right here. (Mark hands the key in a gold case to John.) Locker at the airport. Like you said.
John: Great. I'll wire the money into your account. As usual.

Switch to the front of Wicke's house. A chauffeur leans against white limo, reading the paper. Helen, John, and Mark emerge from the front door.
Mark: Well, goodbye gorgeous.
Helen: (laughing, they kiss on both cheeks) My best to Eve.
Mark: I will. Thanks again John.
John: Mark. Take Care.
Mark: You too! Bye Bye.
John and Helen clink their wine glasses together and watch Mark walk to the limo. Helen turns to re-enter the house. John nods his head at the Chauffeur who pulls out a gun and shoots Mark as he is entering the limo. The chauffeur closes limo door and drives away.
John enters the living room and Helen is typing at a computer.
John: OK. Contact Wallan and we'll start negotiating right away... and, um, cancel Paris for now, we can see them in London next month. And have Randy double security until this deal is over.
Helen: Did it. All.
Phone rings and Helen answers.
Helen: Hello?
Charlie: Helen. Charlie Ross here.
Helen: Oh, yes Charlie.
Charlie: Helen, I think we may have something. (Helen shows interest.) I'm pretty sure I've found her, if it is her. She's at a shelter downtown.
Helen: I see.
Charlie: How do you want to proceed with this? Do you want me to pick her up?
Helen: Yes. Of course.
Charlie: Do you want to meet me down at the shelter?
Helen: No. Here.
Charlie: OK. When do you want to do it?
Helen: As soon as possible.
Charlie: OK. I'll get her as soon as I can.
Helen hangs up phone pensively.
John: What's wrong?
Helen: That was Charlie Ross.
Chuck: We haven't heard from him in months.
Helen: He thinks he's found her.

BUREAU OF SOCIAL SERVICES

Nikita carries a tray of food to a table where many people are eating. Worker and Charlie appear in the doorway. Worker points out Nikita. She sees this and turns to her neighbor.
Nikita: Want some coffee?
Nikita gets up to get coffee. She realizes they are watching her and goes out through kitchen door. She jumps off a balcony and begins to run away but is caught by two men in trench coats.
Nikita: What do you want?
The two men force Nikita into the back seat of a black Sedan. Charlie gets in front with the driver. The car drives away through snow and pine trees.

WICKE'S HOUSE

The black car parks in front. Nikita struggles as two men remove her from the car and drag her to the front door.
Nikita: I can walk by myself.
A maid opens door. Three men enter the house with Nikita and wait in hallway.
Nikita: Come on. Leave me alone. What the hell is this place? Let me go.
Helen: (descending spiral staircase, dressed in a riding habit) I didn't expect you to bring her this morning.
Nikita: Let me go... Please.
Helen: Who gave you the name Nikita?
Nikita: Who said that's my name?
Helen: Do you have family?... Are you a prostitute?
Nikita: No. (She gives the place a good looking over then stares at Helen.) Are you?
Helen: Drug addict?
Nikita: Look. I haven't done anything wrong. What do you want?
Helen: I just want to ask you a few questions. If you promise to cooperate, I'll send them away.
Helen gestures at the men who leave.
Helen: Would you like to come in and sit down?
They move to the living room. Nikita sits on couch. Helen stands in front of her.
Helen: What year were you born?
Nikita: What year were you born?
Helen slaps Nikita. Nikita responds with shock, fear, then resignation.
Helen: What year?
Nikita: '75.
Helen: The date?
Nikita: October 17.
Helen: Who were your parents?
Nikita: I don't know. I lost count after the fifth foster home.
Helen: Where were you born?
Nikita: Halifax.
Helen: Where in Halifax?
Nikita: I don't know where.
Helen: I think you do, Nikita. Say it.
Nikita: (standing up defiantly) Jail. I was born in jail. (She sits down again.)
Helen: (letting out a sigh of relief and then sitting next to Nikita) My poor girl.
Nikita: What? (pause) Crazy!
Helen: I may be. But I'm also your mother.

KITCHEN

A dog barks in the background. Helen places a tray of coffee and scones in front of Nikita.
Helen: I know this all seems unreal to you.
Nikita: I've never seen food like this. What is it?
Helen: Scones. (Nikita breaks one open and takes a bite.) They're better with cream and jam. (Nikita follows directions.)
Helen: What did they tell you about me?
Nikita: You were dead.
Helen: Anything else?
Nikita: Not really.
Helen: I didn't give you up. They took you. I was... I was in jail. Unmarried. It was the law. When I got out, no one would tell me anything. I've been looking for you ever since. Adoption agencies. Foster homes.
Nikita: How'd you find me?
Helen: I hired a detective. Charlie would call every couple of months to check in and tell me there was no leads. And then yesterday he called. And here you are.
Nikita: Cool.
Helen: You don't believe me?
Nikita: (shrugs) What difference does it make?
Helen: To me it does. I hope that one day it will to you, too.
John: (entering kitchen) Helen? (he sees Nikita) Oh, sorry to interrupt.
Helen: (goes to John in doorway) John. This is Nikita. Nikita, my husband, John Wicke.
John: Hello, Nikita.
Nikita: Is he my father?
Helen: No. Your real father's dead.
John: Nikita? What were you doing before you walked into that shelter?
Nikita: Stuff. Hangin' out.
John: And all of a sudden you just needed some help.
Nikita: I got cold.
Helen: She got ... cold.
John: We should go. Now.
Helen: (turning to Nikita) Just ... just wait right there. I'll be ... I'll be right back.
She joins John in the front hallway.
Helen: John, could you do this without me?
John: I can. I'd rather not.
Helen: This is so important to me.
John: I know it is. That's why you can't commit yourself to this until you know it's real.
Helen: It's her. I know it's her.
John: I want this for you, darling. I do. And if it's really her, I'll let everything.
John is distracted by movement through the window. Helen looks, is shocked and speaks into a microphone of some kind.
Helen: Stop her. She's running away.

In the front of the house, Nikita is chased around a bit by guards with barking dogs. Nikita runs to John's car and surreptitiously applies a tracking device under the fender. She turns and sits on the ground, leaning her back against the car. The guards surround her.
Nikita: Hi.
Helen: (rushing up) Don't hurt her.
Nikita: (looking at Helen) You can't keep me here.
Helen: You're free to go. Just give me a chance first.
Nikita: If I'm free, why are they here?
Helen: (looks at guards) Go.
The guards walk away. Helen holds out her hand to Nikita who takes it to help her stand, then lets go. They walk together inside the house. We see John looking at them from second floor window with suspicion.

COMM

Birkoff is at his workstation. The screen shows a diagram of the Wicke house and grounds.
Michael: Has the package been delivered?
Birkoff: They're approaching the target now. It'll be dropped in three minutes.

WICKE'S HOUSE - GUEST BEDROOM

Helen is showing Nikita through the house.
Helen: These are the guest bedrooms. The one that faces the gardens has the nicest deck, but it's the one I was saving for you.
Nikita: Did I say I was staying?
Helen: I see you've inherited my lack of trust.
Nikita: Look, lady, you don't seem to get it. I'm OK with my life. I don't need anything from you or anybody else.
Helen: I tried that when I was your age too. Then I met John and he made me realize I needed someone.
Helen enters the guest bedroom and invites Nikita in after her.
Helen: I hope you like it.
Nikita: (looks around and wanders to shelves filled with dolls) What do you and John do anyway? How'd you get all this?
Helen: John's been very successful in business.
Nikita: What kind of business?
Helen: Oh, different things. So, can I tell Louise to put new linens on the bed?
Nikita: I'll stay a couple of days. No promises.
Helen: No promises. Come on. I want to show you the garden.

COMM

Birkoff: There it goes.
The computer screen shows diagram of plane. We see blinking light move from plane to diagram of the Wicke house.
Birkoff: Oh, no.
Michael: What?
Birkoff: It's landed about 100 feet from the target. It's exposed.

WICKE'S HOUSE

Nikita and Helen come down stairs from house.
Helen: Beyond that ridge is a river. John likes to go down and battle the trout. I'm sure he'd love to take you along with him some time.
Nikita spots the package and realizes she must distract Helen. She looks to their left.
Nikita: Is that the guest house?
Helen: No. That's where John works.
Nikita: (slips her arm through Helen's arms and steers her away from the package) Oh, it's getting cold. Tell me how you and John met.
Helen: It was ... about ten years ago ...

WHITE ROOM

Brodsky is shackled to the torture chair. Two operatives guard him. Madeline opens the door and enters the room. Brodsky is battered and bloody.
Brodsky: What is this place? Who are you people?
Madeline: We already know there are people inside Baghdad who want the nuclear trigger. We just don't know what group.
Brodsky: I don't know what you're talking about.
Madeline: John Wicke? The man who has the trigger. The man you spoke with on the street this afternoon. Killed four of my employees.
Brodsky: Never heard of the guy.
Madeline: We tracked Wicke's car to your meet and saw the money exchange. Do you think there's anything I won't do to get this information from you?
Brodsky: I can't tell you what I don't know. You can torture me all day and that won't change.
Madeline: It's a deal.
Madeline turns to leave. The operatives approach Brodsky. As Madeline closes the door, Brodsky screams in agony.

THE PERCH

Michael: Comm picked up intel from our friends at Mossad. They've narrowed it down to three potential groups.
Operations: Are there any other specifics? Time? Location?
Michael: Nothing.
Madeline enters.
Operations: What have you got from him?
Madeline: So far, nothing.
Operations: (yells in anger) Nothing? I'm getting tired of hearing that word. I mean, has everyone in this place suddenly become incompetent? What do you hear from Nikita?
Michael: No reports for the last six hours, which is probably a good thing.
Madeline: If she can form some kind of bond with Helen Wicke, we'll have the leverage we need.
Operations: (yelling some more) If? If??
Madeline gives Operations an angry look, turns and leaves the room. Michael turns to follow her.
Operations: Michael.
Michael stops in doorway and turns back around.
Operations: I have no intention of failing on this one. Nikita may have to sacrifice.
Michael: Meaning what?
Operations: If Helen Wicke believes she's Nikita's mother she may not be able to tolerate the pain we inflict on her daughter.
Michael looks away, turns and leaves the room.

WICKE'S HOUSE

Outside in the back of Wicke's house at night. Nikita sneaks past a guard and a dog and runs to the package, opens and inspects it. Switch to guard checking the office door and leaving. Nikita watches the guard leave, then sneaks up to the office door. She attaches a frequency counter to the alarm and runs a pass card through the lock. The alarm light switches from red to green.
Nikita goes through the door, the door closes and the alarm light switches back to red. Nikita looks around the office in the dark. She puts on a pair of sunglasses that reveal beams of light criss-crossing the office. Nikita finds a security panel, uses a power screwdriver to remove four screws and access the innards of the panel. She attaches two clips to some wires. She checks the room again and the beams are gone. She then searches the office, paying attention to a bookcase, feeling around for a release button. She goes to the desk and notices a strange object. She takes out a small camera and takes a picture of the object. She hears the sound of a car driving up. She checks the window and sees John emerge from the car.
She rushes back to replace the security panel as John unlocks the door and enters the office. John turns on the light, enters a code into the security panel, walks to the bookcase, and shoves something aside that reveals a hidden safe. He removes the key and money from his pocket and places them in the safe. Across the room there is a small table covered with a cloth. From behind the cloth, Nikita is taking pictures of everything John does. John closes the safe and looks around. He seems suspicious, but doesn't notice anything wrong. He goes to the security panel to punch in the code and notices a screw is missing from the panel and is laying on the table beneath the panel. He picks up the screw and contemplates it, then tosses in into a bowl and leaves.
Switch to the front hallway. John enters through front door, Helen descends the stairs.
Helen: Hi, darling. You look exhausted. How'd it go?
John: Were you in my office earlier?
Helen: No. Why?
John: Nothing. It went fine.
Helen: Should I call in Neal?
John: No. I don't need a massage. I'm just going to take a hot bath and go to bed. Oh, um, how did it go with Nikita?
Helen: It was a good day, John.
John: Where is she?
Helen: She's upstairs in the guest bedroom.
John: I'll see you in bed.
Helen: I'll be up soon.
He goes up to the guest bedroom.
John: (knocks on door and opens it) Nikita?
John tiptoes over to the bed and checks under the covers. Nikita appears to be asleep. John looks around briefly, then leaves.

MADELINE'S OFFICE

Michael enters. Madeline is on the phone on the balcony.
Madeline: All right. (Hangs up phone.)
Michael: We're making progress.
Madeline: I'm listening.
Michael: The trigger is due to arrive in Tripoli in 52 hours.
Madeline: That's it?
Michael: We're working backwards. There's enough time left.
Madeline: (descending stairs) To do what? We can't trace it from the buyers. They don't know where it is. And Wicke won't give them a rendezvous point until the very last possible moment.
Michael: We'll tap into something.
Madeline: Are you trying to convince me or yourself? Wicke and his wife are the only ones who know the location of the trigger. He's not going to crack. She might.
Michael looks away and turns to go.
Madeline: We're going to have to use Nikita. There's no way to avoid it.
Michael stands in doorway. He turns his head to listen.
Madeline: Prepare yourself, Michael.
Michael leaves, doors close.

WICKE'S HOUSE

Helen watches from behind the mirror as Nikita poses in a pink and white frau dress with a pink sash and bow.
Helen: You like it?
Nikita: I feel very different in these clothes.
Helen: You are different. You have a mother now.
Nikita: Helen, you're a very nice woman, but I'm just not able to...
Helen: You can't call me mother?
Nikita: No. Not yet. As I was trying to say, I'm not quite as ready for this as you are.
Helen: I understand. It's just that, I've been waiting for this for years. And now here you are, more beautiful and wonderful than I ever could have imagined.
Nikita: Helen, please.
Helen: One look in your eyes and I knew I'd never be the same. Listen to me. The typical Mom.
There is a knock on the door. The Maid brings in a tray.
Helen: I'll take that.
Helen takes tray and puts in on the table. Helen and Nikita sit down.
Helen: Now tea we take very seriously.
Nikita: I see.
Helen: This is one of my favorites. Sort of like a Darjeeling only a little sweeter. Try it.
Nikita reaches for it. Helen corrects her handling of the cup.
Helen: Ahh, this way's better!
Nikita: Thank you.
Sound of horse neighing outside the window.
Helen: Yes?
Nikita: I like it. (Nikita looks at photograph behind Helen.) Is that my grandmother?
Helen: (rises and turns around to get picture) This was one of the last times she was able to take me out.
Nikita removes a vial from her shoe and drops the contents into Helen's tea. Nikita returns the vial to her bodice before Helen can turn back around.
Helen: She died two months later. She never had a break in her life but she was never bitter.
Nikita: (examining photograph) Look at you.
Helen: I think there's some of her in both of us.
Dog barks.

WICKE'S HOUSE - OFFICE

John is on the phone.
John: This is Wicke. Is he in? ... What do you mean he didn't come back? ... No, I met with him yesterday. ... No, you listen to me. You find out what's going on, where he is and if he's not running his own show, who is? I've gotta get this thing out of the country in the next 24 hours. (John hangs up.)

WICKE'S HOUSE - GUEST BEDROOM

Nikita helps a sleeping Helen to bed and covers her with a blanket. Nikita looks down at Helen and brushes her fingertip across Helen's forehead.
Nikita: I'm sorry, Helen.

Switch to John in the office. Computer screen shows the following messages: "Initializing modem ...Dialing ...Connection failed! Modem currently in use."

Switch to the living room. Nikita in frau dress is typing at the computer. She loads a photo of the key into the computer and sends it.

COMM

The photo appears on Birkoff's computer screen.
Birkoff: Looks like one of those new carbon fiber jobs. Whatever it opens was made in the last two years.
Behind Birkoff stand Operations, Madeline, and Michael.
Michael: Can it be private?
Birkoff: No. They're mass produced for hotels, airports.
Operations looks at Madeline in disgust and leaves.
Madeline: Work it up. (She leaves.)

WICKE'S HOUSE

In the living room Nikita is still at computer. John enters the room behind her and watches as she works.
John: What are you doing?
Nikita: (turning around in shock) Oh! Helen said I could use the computer. I hope that's not a problem.
She disconnects the camera and begins to close up the computer.
John: What's that?
Nikita: This? It's a digital camera.
She turns, snaps a picture of him and smiles playfully.
John: You're, um, you're not Helen's daughter.
Nikita: No. I'm not.
John: What did you do to her?
Nikita: Helen? I put her to sleep for a couple of hours. She'll be fine.
John: Who are you?
Nikita: I'm a friend of Chuck's.
John: Aha. (He turns to get a drink.) I'm afraid I don't know him.
Nikita: Oh yes you do. You killed him a couple of days ago along with a couple of friends of mine.
John: I see.
Nikita: The trigger?
John: You know I'll never tell you that.
Nikita: If you love Helen, you will.
John: I don't love anyone that much. (He opens a briefcase.)
Nikita: That's too bad.
As John reaches for his gun, Nikita grabs her gun and shoots him. He dies.
Nikita: That's for Chuck.

WICKE'S HOUSE - BEDROOM

Nikita has changed into dark pants and is putting on a sweater. She approaches the bed where Helen still sleeps.
Nikita: Helen? (Helen opens eyes) Hi!
Helen: Oh ... I don't know ... I don't know what happened. I just got groggy. How long was I out?
Nikita: Couple of hours -
Helen: Did you see John?
Nikita: He left a while ago.
Helen rises up in bed and grabs phone. Dog barks.
Nikita: Is something wrong?
Helen: We ... We had a very important meeting. This isn't like him. Did he say where he was going?
Nikita: No. He did seem in a hurry.
Doorbell rings. Helen opens door. Nikita is standing behind her. It's Michael and a man in police uniform.
Michael: Mrs. Wicke.
Helen: Yes?
Michael: I'm Detective Lewis. (He shows her a badge.) There's been an accident.
Helen: What are you talking about?
Michael: Your husband was driving on Highway 116 and apparently lost control of his vehicle. He's dead.
Helen: (screaming) No! (she grabs for Nikita) no! no!,  no!
Michael: I'm sorry ma'am. We're going to need you to come down and identify the body.
Switch to Michael waiting outside Wicke House. Helen and Nikita emerge from front door wearing coats.
Helen: I don't know what to think. I ... I ... He did everything.
Nikita: Don't worry about any of that now. I'll take care of you.
Helen: (turns and stares at Nikita in shock) You will?
Nikita: Of course. You're my mother aren't you?
Helen turns to get into car. Nikita turns to Michael and gives him an angry look.

COUNTRY ROAD

The car is driving down a country road, it swerves and pulls to a stop. Nikita and Helen are in the back seat.
Nikita: (removing sunglasses) Why are we stopping?
Michael: Out of the car.
Helen: What are you doing?
Operatives pull Helen out of car and drag her away. Two more operatives drag Nikita out. Nikita struggles. As the two women are dragged into the woods, Nikita repeatedly turns to try to make eye contact with Michael who is following behind.
Helen: (yelling) Leave her alone. Tell me what you want. Stop. Why  are you doing this?
Operatives bring Nikita's arms behind her and tie her to a tree. Michael gestures to an operative who slaps Nikita in the face. Helen is horrified. Michael has turned away.
Helen: What do you want?
Michael: The trigger.
Helen: Ahhh! You killed John because he wouldn't tell you. You think I will.
Michael stares at Helen for a second, then turns back to the operative in front of Nikita.
Michael: Continue.
Nikita is hit in the gut this time. She falls to her knees and has trouble breathing.
Michael: Where is it?
Helen stares him down. Michael turns in disgust and looks at the operative.
Michael: Kill the girl.
The operative takes out pistol and aims it at Nikita. Michael begins walking away. Two operatives begin to drag Helen away.
Helen: No. No. I'll tell you. She's all I've got.
Helen stares at Nikita, Michael also turns to look and seems to echo Helen's emotion.

MED LAB

Nikita is in bed, her face is bloody and bruised. Madeline stands at the foot of the bed, watching her. Michael enters and stands at the foot of the bed next to Madeline and watches Nikita.
Michael: How is she?
Madeline: She'll be fine. Do we have closure?
Michael: The trigger was where she said it was and we picked up the buyers.
Nikita opens her eyes.
Madeline: Hello.
Nikita: What happened?
Madeline: You did your job. Thank you.
Madeline leaves. Michael moves to Nikita's side.
Michael: I'm sorry it had to come to that.
Nikita: Don't be. I'm getting used to how things are. Is Helen still alive?
Michael: For now.
Nikita: Does she know ... that I'm not her daughter?
Michael: We haven't told her.
Nikita: You know my real mother would have let them keep beating me. She would let me die.
Nikita turns away. Michael reaches out and brushes his thumb across her forehead.
Michael: Get some rest. (He turns and goes to doorway.)
Nikita: Michael.
Michael turns around, standing in doorway.
Nikita: However long she's got, let her believe.
Michael looks at her for a moment, then turns and leaves the room. Camera returns to Nikita looking forlorn and badly beaten. Camera withdraws through doorway and doors close.
