Scene: Madeline's office. Madeline is walking across the catwalk above, and Nikita is sitting in a chair on the main level.
Michael: Congratulations, Nikita. You've crossed a milestone.
Nikita: I have?
Michael: You've completed what might be called the probationary period. You're a full-fledged operative now, the equal of any operative in the Section.
Nikita: Equal…to Michael?
Michael: Well…
Nikita: Some are a little more equal than others? Madeline says nothing but starts walking down the stairs. So do I get a cap? A gown? Merit badge?
Michael: sits down on the couch opposite Nikita We're very satisfied with your progress. So are there any issues you'd like to raise?
Nikita: You're inviting me to ask questions? incredulous
Michael: That's right.
Nikita: Why should I bother, you're not going to answer them.
Michael: You won't know 'til you ask.
Nikita: It's just another way of building a data file labeled "Nikita", isn't it? Any questions I ask, you have more insight to the way I tick - all the more for you to wind me up when you need it.
Michael: admiringly You really have graduated.
Nikita: Still, I do have one question. I see a lot of young people in the Section but very few old. Why is that, Madeline? Surely not everybody's been lost in action.
Michael: No, not all.
Nikita: So what happens to us down the line? Do we get a condo in Miami? Or is it a bullet to the back of the head?
Michael: It's a good question, Nikita. Perhaps more profound than you know.
Nikita: And the answer?
Michael: Is highly classified.
Nikita: Naturally. Madeline, I will be expecting my merit badge in the mail. Nikita gets up and heads for the door.
Michael: Nikita. Nikita stops and Madeline gets up and goes over to face her From now on, you have to understand more will be expected of you. Don't disappoint us.

Next scene - Suba's lair. He's on top of a struggling woman.
Woman: Stop it! Stop it! She slaps him
Suba: What do you think you're here for?
Woman: Not with everybody watching. We see three of Suba's men standing guard
Suba: That just makes it more fun.
Suba's Guard:They're here. the woman takes the opportunity to escape
Suba: Show them in.
Suba's Guard: Come on. He ushers in two neatly dressed men in suits
Suba: What do you want?
Suit Man #1: The Agency wants you out of the country. The drugs are bad enough, but then you kill a guy just because he won't let you dance with his wife?
Suba: You didn't see her.
Suit #1: You're out of control, Suba. You've got 48 hours.
Suba: That's not possible. There's still something I gotta do first.
The suits exchange a look
Suba: Visit Disneyland. Been here five years, never been once.
Suit #1: Well, we heard you've been snooping around nuclear power plants. You wouldn't be trying to get your hands on some of that enriched U-235, would you?
Suba: You know, I bet a guy could make a lot of money doing that. Thanks for the idea.
Suit #1: 'Cause if you start messing around with nukes, we won't just kick you out of the country, we'll finish you. Two days. You've been warned.
Suba: Your colleague here, Barnes. Suppose I told you that he's on my payroll.
Suit #1: Well I'd say that you were delusional.
Suba: Did you hear that? He called me crazy.
Suit #2, Barnes, pulls a gun on a shocked Suit #1 and shoots him at point-blank range
Suba: laughing Did you ever see a more surprised face in your life? to his men Find me that bitch who slapped me.

Scene: Section One. Nikita is walking down the hallway when Roger, another operative, appears behind her.
Roger: Nikita?
Nikita: turns Hi, Roger.
Roger: Operations is looking for you. There's a briefing in five minutes.
Nikita: I was so looking forward to a relaxing evening at home.
Roger: almost a laugh Well, I'm afraid you're going to have to postpone that for a few hours. Or a few days.
Nikita: Or forever. Roger turns to walk away. Roger? He turns back, she removes her sunglasses and looks at him How long have you been here?
Roger: My whole life. Just like everybody else.
Nikita: Madeline told me that I'm off probation now. What does that mean, exactly?
Roger: It means whatever they want it to mean, until they decide that it means something else. I'm not trying to be clever, just honest.
Nikita: Thanks.
Roger: The only thing you can do while you're here Nikita -
Nikita: interrupts him - Focus on the mission..
Roger: Stay alive. He turns and leaves
Nikita: Stay alive. She replaces her sunglasses and goes to the briefing

Scene: The briefing room. Operations is pacing as usual. Madeline is sitting on his side of the table and Michael, Roger and Nikita are on the other.
Operations: Suba came here five years ago after a coup in his own country. The Agency sponsored him because of his anti-terrorist activities. But, he's become a liability. Lately he's been trying to acquire waste uranium from power plants. He might already have some. Operations seats himself next to Madeline. Now the Agency has been compromised, so we have to clean up.
Roger: They want him planted?
Operations: Oh no. They might want to use him again. sarcastically. We're to deport him - quickly and quietly.
Michael: Weaknesses?
Madeline: Yes. He likes tall blondes.
Cut to a shot of the interior of the mission van, with Michael, Roger and Birkoff inside. Then we see Nikita walking along in an evening gown as salsa music plays. She is stopped by a guard at the entrance.
Guard: This is a private party.
Nikita: I'm one of the girls.
Guard: You're late.
Nikita: I had to take a philosophy exam. Bats her eyelashes at the guard You can frisk me, if you want…
Guard: does exactly that, clearly enjoying himself. Let her in.
As Nikita proceeds through the crowd, she touches a bauble on the front of her dress and the mission van gets a camera view of the club. She looks around, smiling, until she sees Suba, sitting on a couch with two blondes fawning over him. She then positions herself at the bar so he can get a clear view of her extremely backless dress. She looks at him over her shoulder and wiggles her hips
Suba: Whoa. You'd need a stepladder for that one! to his guard Bob - Suba points to her. He then watches with interest as Bob goes over to Nikita, who kicks him hard. Suba is impressed. I like her! He goes over and starts dancing with her. She slips the tracker on his lapel, and they keep dancing. As he dips her, she notes the presence of his many guards around them.
Michael: in the van They're not going to let her go. Get me in.
Birkoff:You got it.
Inside the club Suba and Nikita are still dancing.
Birkoff: I picked up their frequency.
Roger: Robert? You there? He's talking to the guard who frisked Nikita
Robert:Go ahead.
Roger: There's trouble out front.
Robert: What? What's going on?
Roger: Just get out here. There's a guy in a red jacket. Suba says run him off.
Robert: to the other guard Let's go!
the guards wrestle away a guy in a red jacket; Michael uses the opportunity to slip inside the club. Meanwhile, Suba and his men are forcing Nikita into Suba's hidden room
Nikita: Hey! she is thrown on the bed. She hits him in the head with a pillow but he only smiles and takes off his jacket. She kicks at him but he anticipates the move and catches her foot. Suba jumps on top of her ripping at her clothes as she struggles Michael appears at the door and growls in a very un-Michael like voice
Michael: There you are, bitch!
Nikita jumps up and runs over to him!
Nikita: It's not what it seems!
Michael: What it seems? You think I'm a fool? He slaps her and she spins around to land in Suba's arms
Nikita: Please! Tell him nothing happened!
Michael: Where'd you get this dress? It's a disgrace! You're PREGNANT! He grabs her by the arm and roughly yanks her from the room.
Suba: Where you going, friend?
Michael: advances on Suba Let me give you one piece of advice, mister - don't get married!
Michael turns and leaves, Suba laughs.

Scene: The mission van is driving along and we can hear Birkoff's voice in side of it.
Birkoff: The signal's strong, let's do a comm check.
Another voice: One, radio, check.
Birkoff: Okay, he's slowing down and…he's turning off. There's an old farmhouse about a mile back from the road, he may be headed there. Nikita is seen, dressing in her mission clothes Better slow down. He stopped.
Michael: Let's go. He, Nikita and Roger exit the van
They are all outside in the bushes
Michael: Northwest corner, second floor. Destroy all documents and anything that gets in the way, but we need Suba alive.
Roger: Two guards.
Nikita: The way they partied? They'll sleep for a week. she and Roger advance upon the house. They go inside and upstairs
Michael's voice: Closing in on signal.
Roger and Nikita close in on the bed but rip back the sheets to find a few pillows along with their tracker
Roger: The tracker!
They see lights and hear a helicopter outside. Gunfire sprays the house; Roger and Nikita retreat downstairs as windows are blasted out. Roger is injured; Nikita helps him.

Back in Section; a laser board lights up above the egress hallway. It says "INCOMING WOUNDED PS. K32-K56
Voices: Yeah, put him in one. He's got a gunshot wound to the leg. Roger comes in on a stretcher, Michael and Nikita follow on foot and are met by Operations and Madeline
Operations: What happened?!
Michael: It was a trap. They were expecting us.
Madeline: I think she says? Losses?
Michael: Two dead, three wounded. Could have been worse. Should have been worse.
Madeline: Explanation?
Michael: Suba found the tracker.
Operations: furious, to Nikita Where did you put it?!
Nikita: Inside his collar, it was secure. I don't understand how he found it so quickly.
Operations: Well he did!
Nikita: something? Michael-
Michael: Shut up. It's my mess, I'll fix it.
Operations: So you know where he is? sarcastically
Michael: I'll find him.
Operations: For your sake… He leaves and Michael follows, leaving Madeline and Nikita standing there.
Madeline: In time you'll learn, it's not enough to do your best.
Nikita: I did what you wanted me to.
Madeline: It wasn't enough.

Scene: Nikita enters one of the white medical rooms where Roger is lying on a bed.
Nikita: How are you doing?
Roger: It's just a scratch. I'll be up in no time.
Nikita: He found the tracker, it's my fault. I'm sorry.
Roger: It goes with the territory. Forget about it. And thanks for pulling me out of there.
Nikita: You'd have done the same. she leaves

Scene: Nikita and Walter in Walter's area. She is thinking about the mission.
Nikita: Maybe we shouldn't have put it on his collar.
Walter: Don't beat yourself up. It's their world, you just live in it. I mean, what the Hell. Guys with handguns taking on a fifty-millimeter? The chopper got off a hundred rounds before you guys got, what, you and Michael five, Roger three.
Nikita: Two. she is playing with a small light
Walter: No, it was three. I've got his gun.
Nikita: No. Two. I'm sure of it. I thought I was going to die, I remember.
Walter: Sugar, I checked the gun. He fired three shots.

Next scene: the farmhouse. Nikita has returned and is checking over the walls and looking at the bullet holes. She thinks back and remembers the third shot as Roger cried out. Then she sees a bullet hole in the floor. Next scene she is back entering Roger's room.
Nikita: Hi.
Roger: Hi.
Nikita: Your leg hurting much? She walks around behind the bed…a very Madeline-like move
Roger: No, it's fine.
Nikita: Glad to hear it. How about - she slams her fist down on it now? Roger cries out in pain
Roger: You crazy???
Nikita: You set us up.
Roger: What are you talking about?
Nikita: Don't mess with me.
Roger: I didn't set anybody up.
Nikita: A fifty-millimeter shell would have ripped your leg apart. You only got a flesh wound. I went back to the farmhouse and found this, it's from your gun. She shows him the smashed bullet.
Roger: You're out of your mind.
Nikita: Should we take it to Walter? Roger looks down and sobs You shot yourself so you wouldn't be suspecte.d. Why? Why? WHY?
Roger: Because they have my son. Because Suba has my son. He's eight years old. And if I don't do exactly what they tell me to do, they're gonna kill him.
Flash to a soccer ball bouncing. Roger's son is in a barn, kicking the ball. It comes to rest by the foot of an armed guard, who kicks it back. Next scene, back to the white room
Roger: my tape cuts here …twenty. I deserved it. But then, along came Section One and you know the rest. They turned me inside out, remade me in their own image, except for the one thing they never found out about. The only thing I ever did right in my whole life. I had a son.
Nikita: How did you keep it from them?
Roger: I never married the mother. So there were no records or papers. She died when he was two so I gave him to another couple to raise. Good people. I figured he'd be better off that way. I was right. All the time the Section was training me, that was the only thing I had to hang on to, you know? My boy, my son. And I never told them. Every once in a while I go to his house and watch him getting ready to leave for school or playing in the yar.d.
Nikita: You never speak to him?
Roger: Never. Never. I want to keep him free of anything connected with the Section.
Nikita: How did Suba find out?
Roger: I don't know, I don't know. I just know that my boy will die if I don't give him what he wants.
Nikita: What does he want?
Roger: Suba has been smuggling uranium out of the country. He can't do it all at once so he moves it a little bit every few days. I'm using Section intel to find out which exit points are safe. Then I'm giving him daily reports.
Nikita: Ah, so you warned him about the raid.
Roger: Yeah.
Nikita: Stupid to shoot yourself, nobody suspected treason. They blamed it on me.
Roger: Well I wish I'd known that in advance. I had to be certain no one would suspect me. If the Section took me off the case I couldn't give Suba what he wants.
Nikita: I suppose you can't tell them the truth.
Roger: If Section thinks you've got a weakness an enemy could exploit, you become an enemy too. Nikita, help me, please. Please.
Nikita walks across Section, Michael calls to her from behind
Michael: What are you going to do?
Nikita: What do you mean?
Michael: We have some down time, you should go over the dry mission profile.
Nikita: I already have.
Michael: Go over it again, we can't afford any more mistakes. He walks past her, not even slowing down
Flash to another shot of Roger's son kicking the ball. A woman watches him, knitting
Boy: When can I go home?
Woman: Maybe tomorrow. Maybe never.

Next scene: The docks. A large ship is in port and Roger stands there. A red convertible drives up and Suba gets out
Suba: What have you got?
Roger: Nothing.
Suba: That could be dangerous for your son's health.
Roger: I got hit in the leg the other night during the raid. I've been laid up.
Suba: Punches him in the jaw, then grabs him by the face. Don't play games.
Roger: No games, I swear.
Suba: My uranium's piling up. I've got to get it out of the country now.
Roger: I'll have your intelligence for you this afternoon.
Suba: Yes, you will. Suba turns to go
Roger: Suba! What about my son?
Suba: Ummm…he had a bit of a fever this morning. Sweating. He looked pretty bad. pauses Joking, man! Lighten up! Suba laughs, gets back in the car and drives off. Nikita follows in another vehicle. Suba is holed up in a big compound that looks like a school. Nikita approaches the guard, Robert, on foot
Nikita: Remember me?
Robert: How'd you find us?
Nikita: Suba sent for me.
Robert: I wasn't told.
Nikita: Aw. Guess you're out of the loop. Nikita decks him and pulls him, unconscious, out of the way. She heads across the grounds until she sees Roger's son playing and manages to catch his attention
Nikita: Kyle! Kick the ball over here! the boy does so Hi. I'm a friend come here to get you out. You have to trust me. We have to hurry.
Kyle: What should I do?
Nikita: There's a trailer in the back of the building. Meet me there.
Kyle: How?
Nikita: Kick the ball. Like you just did.
Kyle emerges from the bushes with the ball
Kyle: Found it!
Woman: Stay where I can see you. He kicks the ball along, trying to get to Nikita. Meanwhile the bald guard discovers Robert
Bald Guard: Get to the gate! If you see anything moving, shoot it! If it moves again, shoot it again! Go! Now! Hurry up! Get the kid! Get the kid!
Other Guard: Johnson, you're with me.
Womann: Kyle, come on!
Kyle: I have to get the ball first!
Nikita: Come on, come on.
Woman: Now, I said NOW! she grabs Kyle and drags him off. Nikita escapes

Next scene: Section One comm center. Operations, Madeline and Michael.
Operations: Has he vanished into thin air?
Michael: I'm telling you. Our sources have come up empty so far, but we're working on it.
Madeline: What about satcom traffic?
Birkoff: We're working on it.
Operations: I'm getting tired of that phrase! You're starting to test my patience. Do you understand what I mean?
Nikita arrives
Nikita: Excuse me? Can I have a word with you.
Michael: We're busy.
Operations: Michael, I need you to do two things. Number one-
Nikita: interrupts I can deliver Suba.
Operations: What?
Nikita: I know where he is. But he won't be there long. I'll need an eight man assault team and a ten minute head start.
Operations: Why?
Nikita: Isn't it enough that I can deliver what you want?
Operations: Do it. I want a complete debriefing. Nikita and Michael leave; Operations walks over to Madeline She's protecting someone.
Madeline: Yes, she is. She's looking right at Roger.

Scene: Outside, Suba's compound. Nikita comes up behind the guard and slams his head against a metal frame, knocking him out. A Lincoln drives toward her; she shoots out the tire. Suba gets out.
Suba: These tires are brand new. I don't understand this. Fix it! Let's go. Suba stalks away; Nikita emerges.
Nikita: Hello!
Suba: Who the hell are you?
Nikita: Good afternoon to you too.
Suba: How the hell did she get in here? Are you all sleeping??? The lady with the jealous husband.
Nikita: That's right, I also happen to be a friend of Kyle's. I just wanted to say goodbye to him. You don't mind, do you?
Suba: Don't come any closer!
Nikita: Shows her hands I just have a little present for him. It's a golf ball, see? In case he gets tired of soccer. Nikita rolls the golf ball. It lands underneath the Lincoln and the car bursts into flames. She runs for Kyle
Suba: Kill her!
Nikita takes out the bald guard; other operatives cover Nikita as she chases Suba and Kyle into the barn.
Kyle: Where are we going?
Suba: Shut up!
Nikita: Suba! She has a gun pointed at him
Suba: You make a move, I shoot the kid. Put the gun down. Put the gun down now! Nikita does so That's better. Kyle bites his hand and escapes Get back! Kyle stands between the two of them; both have guns Come back to me, Kyle. Get over here, kid.
Nikita: Back up, Kyle.
Suba: Walk back to me Kyle. Kyle! Kyle has started moving backwards
Nikita: More.
Suba: Kyle! Come back to me now, kid!
Nikita: More.
Kyle: No! he falls through a trapdoor and Nikita shoots Suba. Suba goes for his gun but Nikita steps on his wrist with her high-heeled boot. Ouch.

Scene: outdoors, by the water. Roger stands there as Nikita and Kyle approach.
Roger: Kyle.
Kyle: Who's he?
Nikita: He's a friend.
Kyle: Can I go home now?
Roger: Yeah. Yeah, I called your mom and dad. They're just over there. Kyle runs to his adoptive parents, screaming "Mom! Dad!" Nikita, if we don't work together again-
Nikita: - we will.
Roger: Thank you. Nikita watches Kyle leave. When she turns, Roger is gone.

Scene: Section one. Michael is talking to another operative as Nikita arrives.
Operative: You want me to run the disk?
Nikita: Hey! Where's Roger? Michael hands the disk to the other operative, who says "OK and then leaves
Michael: It was thought he'd be better off somewhere else.
Nikita: Where else is there? Earth to Nikita… Michael is silent, waits for her to get a clue
Section had him cancelled. Say it, Michael. He's dead. Section had him killed because he's weak.
Michael: He betrayed the Section. Lives were loft.
Nikita: And a life was saved, an innocent one.
Michael: Leave it alone, Nikita. It's over.
Nikita stalks into Madeline's office. Madeline's back is to her but she knows it's her.
Madeline: Yes, Nikita?
Nikita: Why? Why? She is fighting back tears
Madeline: Come sit down. Nikita sits beside her on the couch. What you did for Roger was noble, but it wasn't worth the risk.
Nikita: How can you be so ruthless?
Madeline: Because the other side is ruthless. If we're not stronger then they win and we lose. You're a good operative, Nikita. Don't let your humanity get in the way.
Nikita: My humanity? Madeline gets up and walks out of her office
