TEASER - MISSION - DANCE CLUB
Music and many people dancing the Salsa. Michael passes through the
crowd, punches a guy and throws him down some stairs. Nikita walks
onto the dance floor. A man intercepts her path, they start to
dance. During the dance, he slips a security card into her hand.
Nikita walks to Michael, who is guarding the staircase, and puts her
hands on his shoulders so it looks like they are dancing. He pushes
her hand down his chest slowly to his pants but unfortunately all she
gets is a gun (my mom was outraged at this scene - it has to be
good). Nikita breaks the dance and walks down the staircase, and
into what looked like a basement. Nikita walks to the computer, and
swipes the security card.
Nikita: Looks like it's all
here.
Birkoff: Good, destroy it.
She puts a big magnetic thing on the computer that is supposed to wipe
out the hard drive. Just as a remark, it might have been more
effective on the case instead of the monitor, but harder to see.
Nikita: Done.
Birkoff: Get out of there. They'll
be on top of you any second.
Nikita tries the door. It's locked. She is trapped inside the
room.
Nikita: Birkoff, I can't get
out.
Birkoff: What do you mean?
Nikita: The door is locked.
Birkoff: They know you're
there. Michael, Nikita's trapped. Go in.
Michael goes to get her and opens the door from outside.
Michael: Nikita, this way. (he
said Nikita with the accent on the "a", making it sound
French)
Before Nikita can respond, someone grabs Michael from behind, and
electrocutes him.
Birkoff: Nikita, don't
pursue. There are too many shooters. I'm sending back up.
PEREZ'S COMPOUND
Michael is brought into a room inside a cage on wheels. His hands are
handcuffed above him to the cage. He looks around, examining the
place.
Perez: I see you are awake. We
have some questions to ask you before you are disposed of. We're
curious where you found out about us.
Orlando Perez injects Michael with an orange liquid.
Perez: Get him prepared.
Perez walks past a series of glass chambers. Each chamber contained a
nude body with all their hair shaved, all were alive. He knocks on one
glass door and waves.
Perez: How are you today, sunshine?
BRIEFING
Operations: Last night, we engaged
in an operation to destroy certain records belonging to this
man. Orlando Perez, a first year Red Cell tactician who's been
responsible for the abductions of several high level players, all of
whom have access to sensitive intel. There has been not demands for
their release. We believe he's using them as involuntary
sources. Birkoff?
Nikita interrupts: What about
Michael?
Birkoff: The info we destroyed
last night was vital to Perez's operation. In order to recover it, he
will have to sub-contract one of the three data recovery experts.
Operations: All of whom we now
own.
Nikita interrupts again.
Nikita: I asked a question.
Operations: If Michael is still
alive, and we are able to recover him without incurring further
losses, we will.
Nikita: He should be a
priority.
Operations: I beg your pardon?!
Nikita: If Perez is abducting
agents to extract intel, then Michael's going to become a
liability. We need to extract him.
Operations: Or kill him. Let me
break this down for everybody so we are clear. We have a mandate to
stop Perez, and we will. As far as Michael is concerned, he is a class
five operative and I have no intention of sacrificing him
unnecessarily. Our profilers are working up a strategy as we
speak. Your pads will be updated with your respected tacticals. This
briefing is over.
Everyone stands up to leave. Operations stops Nikita.
Operations: Nikita. In case you
have forgotten, this is a military organization. There is a chain of
command and a protocol to speaking to superiors. I will accept a
certain leeway from time to time when emotions run high, but not
always.
Nikita: I'm sorry.
PEREZ'S COMPOUND
Michael is strapped to a chair, his arms are strapped above his
head. There are IVs injecting fluids into his body.
Nurse: His blood levels are in
AVA. Should I increase?
Perez: No. That should be
enough. Let's begin. What is your name?
Michael: Michael.
Perez: Michael what?
Michael: Michael Samuelle.
Perez: Hello, Michael
Samuelle. Where were you born?
Michael: Marseilles.
Perez: What year?
Michael: 1965. (which makes him
33 years old.)
Nurse: His AEG levels are
stable. He's telling the truth.
Perez: For whom do you work?
(silence) I asked you a question, Michael Samuelle, for whom do
you work? (no answer). What's the problem?
Nurse: It's likely he's programmed
to resist certain types of memory de-sensing.
Perez: Can you work around it?
Nurse: Give me another two more
hours, he'll be an open book.
SECTION
Operations: You got something?
Birkoff: One of our data recovery
informants was contacted by a woman named Ying Kam.
Operations: She works for
Perez?
Birkoff: She's been brought in
now.
Operations: Has she given up
anything yet?
Birkoff: No, she'll need some
persuasion.
Operations walk up to Madeline's office. He enters the code to open
her door, the door wouldn't open. She is laughing inside. He knocks on
the door. When the door opens, a young operative with a big charming
smile is coming out. Operations is not happy.
Operative: How're you doing?
(he's the big boss, you can't just ask him that!)
Operations: Are you busy?
Madeline: No. Russel was just
telling me an amusing story about his last delta pick-up.
Operations: I see.
Madeline: What's up?
Operations: Mobil is bringing in
one of Perez's people, a woman. She'll need your attention (hope I
never need her attention).
Madeline: How soon?
Operations: Within the hour.
Madeline: I'll be there.
Before he walks out, Operations hesitates as if he was going to say
something, then changes his mind.
SYSTEMS
Operations is on the computer checking out Russel Burke who has been
in Madeline's office before. The screen says "Access Denied".
Operations: Damn it. Birkoff!
Birkoff: Sir?
Operations: Get over here. What's
wrong with this thing?
Birkoff: What are you trying to
access?
Operations: The file of one of our
operatives.
Birkoff: Who?
Operations: Russel Burke. What do
you know about him?
Birkoff: He's in for a lot of
Valentine operations.
Operations: Really?
Birkoff: Yeah, women go crazy for
this guy. (This is not exactly what Operations wanted to hear.)
He's brought in a lot of hard intel over the last couple of years. You
want me to quote efficiency on him?
Operations: No. That's fine.
WHITE ROOM
Madeline: Hello, Miss Kam. Can I
get you anything? Some water? I've looked at your file. You present
differently than most of our detainees. Raised in an upper middle
class family, very attractive but restless. You got entangled in a
relationship with Orlando Perez, a man who uses you for errands and
sex. Trust me, you do not have the strength to withstand the pain out
technology can inflict. The question is simple. Will you cooperate
now, or you'll force me to modify you?
THE PERCH
Operations watches down below as Russel talks to a group of female
operatives.
Madeline: (on the comm..)
We just got location on Perez.
Operations: Good. Send a team.
PEREZ'S LOCATION
Nurse: I boosted the dosage, he
should be ready. But I can only keep him saturated for a couple of
minutes, after that there will be too much damage.
Perez: Let's see if you're worth
keeping alive.
Birkoff: Everyone to second
mark. We're closing in.
Operatives are climbing on the roof.
Perez: Whom do you work for,
Michael?
Michael: Section One.
Perez: What were you doing at my
club?
Birkoff: Your marks are
up. Go.
Shooting can be heard from outside. Section operatives have arrived to
retrieve Michael and Perez. Perez leaves the room.
Nikita leaves her team to find Michael.
Nikita: Michael.
She unstraps him and takes out the IVs. There's a strange look in his
eyes, unusual.
Nikita: Michael, can you walk?
Michael: I think so. (Nikita
places a gun in his hand.) What's this for?
Nikita: This area is not secure
yet. (To prove her point, she shoots a guard that burst into the
room.)
Michael: Where are we?
Nikita: Michael. It's me,
Nikita. Come on.
Michael gives her this puzzled look.
Nikita: Michael, let's go.
Michael: Why do you keep calling
me Michael?
Nikita gives him a long look.
Nikita: Ok, Birkoff, it's me, I
got Michael. How do we get out of here?
Birkoff: Nothing's secure yet. Can
you upgrade the tactical?
Nikita: No. Michael's been
sedated, I'm gonna have to keep him close.
Nikita takes off her leather jacket and puts it on Michael. Michael
follows her with his eyes like a child.
Birkoff: Let me see if I can
create a space for you. Team 3, increase your wedge by a few
degrees. (some shooting) Ok, Nikita, there's a door 10m to your
right down the hallway. It leads out. It will be clear for the next 60
seconds.
Nikita: (to Michael) Ok, we
gotta go now.
Michael: I don't know who you
are.
Nikita: You've been drugged. I
don't have the time to explain, but I'm here to help. These people
here are trying to kill you.
Michael: Why?
Nikita: Because you are their
enemy. You are an anti-terrorist operative.
Michael: (snorts) No, I am
not. (The expression on his face is across between, yeah, and my
name is James Bond and you got to be nuts.)
Nikita: Who do you think you are?
Michael: I can't remember.
Birkoff: Nikita, I can't keep this
corridor clear. You gotta get out of there.
Nikita: If you want to live, you
gotta come with me. Come on.
They leave the room.
Operative: Are you ready?
Nikita: Yeah, let's go.
Michael hesitates.
Nikita: Michael, Michael, get over
here.
A guard fire at Michael, Michael shoots back and kills him. His hands
are literally shaking. Nikita grabs Michael. Nikita: Stay
with me. Ready?
SYSTEMS
Operations: How did we do?
Birkoff: We lost 4 ops.
Operations: And Perez?
Birkoff: He slipped through.
Operations: How?
Birkoff: We're still not
sure.
Operations: In other words, a
complete failure.
Birkoff: We haven't finished
combing the scene yet, but we did pick up Michael.
Operations: When you get something
substantial, call me. (so Michael is not substantial…)
VAN ACCESS
Nikita and Michael return from the mission.
Operations: Michael.
Michael stops, turns around very slowly, looking at Nikita first, as
if she's his only point of reference.
Michael: Yes?
Operations: We are glad you are
back.
Michael: Thank you.
Operations: We were able to
extract an RP on Perez.
Michael: An RP?
Nikita: Is the retreat point still
unknown? (that's what the RP was) I think I should take Michael
to medical before he debriefs. There was quite a bit of interrogation
equipment at the site.
Operations: Are you all right?
Michael: Yes, just need a little
bit of rest.
Nikita: I'll take him.
Operations: Fine.
MADELINE'S OFFICE
Madeline: Hello.
Operations: I have to pick a decoy
for Pakistan. The chances of returning alive are less than 10%.
Madeline: I'm aware of
that. So?
Operations: I'm thinking of
sending Russel. Unless you think he'd be more valuable where he is
now.
Madeline: (condescending) I
don't think so. Russel's a good choice.
Operations: Good. Then it's
settled.
Madeline gives him the Mona Lisa look. After Operations leaves,
Madeline logs onto her computer and checks out Burke's file.
NIKITA'S APARTMENT
Michael awakens from Nikita's bed.
Nikita: Hi.
Michael: How long did I sleep?
Nikita: Not long, a couple of
hours.
Michael: I have strange
dreams.
Nikita: Do you remember anything
yet?
Michael: No. Maybe we should
contact my family. They must be worried.
Nikita: You don't have a family,
not in the ordinary sense of the word. The organization we work for is
so covert that none of us have any real identities. We are all dead as
far as the outside world is concerned.
Michael: Do I have friends?
Nikita: I don't know. I don't
really know that much about you.
Michael: How long have you known
me?
Nikita: Over three years, you
trained me.
Michael: (smiles) Why don't
you know me better?
Nikita: It's hard to explain.
Michael: I must be a real
jerk. (with quiet humor)
Nikita: (laughs) Actually I
am very fond of you.
Michael: I am happy to hear
that. Yesterday when I killed this man. I've done that before, haven't
I? (Nikita brushes a strand of hair away from his face.) What
will happen if my memory doesn't return?
Nikita: They will kill you.
Michael: Why don't they just let
me go?
Nikita: Cause they don't' let
anybody go.
Michael: I can't accept that.
Nikita: But you have to.
Michael: I may not know who I was,
but I know who I am, I can feel it. I will never be treated like a
caged animal.
Nikita looks like she is about to cry. She gently brushes a strand of
hair away from his face.
THE CLUB
Perez: Minor setback, that's
all. Everything's still on for tomorrow night, right here at the
club. No, we'll be fine. Weapons are secure. I'll see you in Tangier
by the week-end.
Some is making his manicure and hurts him.
Perez: Idiot. Be careful!
SECTION
Operations: Yes, Birkoff.
Birkoff: We just received
something about Perez from Section 7.
Operations: What?
Birkoff: Someone's brokered short
range tactical missiles on the black market. They suggest Perez might
be the buyer.
Operations: Initiate the
profile.
NIKITA'S APARTMENT
Nikita is drawing blood from Michael. He's wearing a white bathrobe
and white suits him well, especially with the loose curly hair.
Michael: Why do you need my blood?
Nikita: If there are any drugs
left in your system, maybe they will be able to tell us
something.
Michael: You are a good friend
Nikita. (Nikita looks away.) Did I say something wrong?
Nikita: No. It's just hard to get
used to.
Michael: What?
Nikita: You.
Michael: Didn't I ever tell you
things like that?
Nikita: No.
Michael: I can't believe it. Did
we ever dance?
Nikita: Only under orders.
Michael stands up and extends his hand, silently asking for a
dance.
Nikita: Oh, Michael, I don't think
so.
Michael: Please.
Michael puts his arm around Nikita, but Nikita is standing about a
mile away from him.
Michael: Just a little
. . . (Michael shows the distance between his fingers. Nikita moves
a little closer.) Thank you.
They start to dance, and since this is a TV show, the music magically
starts by itself. Michael lightly kisses Nikita on the cheek. Nikita
pushes him away.
Nikita: Please, don't.
Michael: Why not?
Nikita: This is not who you
are.
They continue dancing; Michael lays his head on her
shoulder. (Nikita is the strong one now.) Michael's cell phone
rings. He completely panics.
Michael: What do I say?
Nikita: Just agree.
Michael answers the phone.
Michael: Yeah. Aha. They want me
to come in.
Nikita: Well, then we got work to
do.
OBSERVATION DECK
Operations is checking his watch, Michael is late. Michael glides into
the room, dressed like his old self, all black, hair combed back.
Michael: You wanted to see me?
Operations: We're converging on
Perez. We have a couple of options. I'd like your input.
Michael: Of course.
WALTER'S
Nikita is looking up, worried.
Walter: I'll be right with you,
sugar!
Michael is still talking to Operations.
Walter: OK, what's up?
Nikita: I need you to run
something for me.
Walter: What for?
Nikita: Not sure. Maybe a
psychotropic agent of some sort, something that can deal with
memory.
Walter: Whose blood is it?
Nikita: Does it matter?
Walter: Well, I gotta know whose
baseline to pull so I can get a delta. (meaning difference)
Nikita: (reluctant)
Michael's.
Walter looks concerned. Nikita holds on to his arm and looks at him,
pleading not to say anything, and he nods.
SYSTEMS
Birkoff: There's no confirmation,
but there's a good chance that Perez's hiding out in a private club in
Buckenwald, Germany.
Operations: How good?
Birkoff: .75. The problem is, if
he isn't there, if we go in, we loose our advantage.
Michael: What's our advantage?
Operations: (impatiently)
The deal! They'll know we are onto the deal!
Birkoff: On the other hand, if we
don't pick up Perez soon, we'll have to rely on our field ops. They
are already on the scene through their cover.
Operations: Those systems will be
untrakable if we don't find Perez in the next 18 hours. We've got to
make a choice. Michael?
Michael: (to Birkoff) What
do you think we should do?
Birkoff: (shocked) What do
you mean?!
Operations: Michael. Are you all
right?
Michael: I'm fine. I'm just saying
that this is not a subjective call. We should let the computer do an
analysis.
Birkoff: An analysis? You mean a
sym.?
Michael: Yeah, sym.
Birkoff: I did.
Operations: And?
Birkoff: According to the numbers,
there is a 30% advantage to go in.
Michael: 30%, then we go in.
Operations: Ok, put together your
team.
Michael walks into the briefing room, he's got no clue where to go. He
looks around him as operatives rush by him, before Nikita finally
leads him to his office.
Nikita walks to his desk and secures the room.
Michael: What are you doing?
Nikita: Securing the room. Ok, now
we can talk. What did Operations say?
Michael: I can't do this
Nikita. They are going to find out. I don't know what I'm doing.
Nikita: Just do what I tell
you.
Michael: But for how much longer?
Nikita: Walter's gonna know
something when he analyses the blood.
Michael: And if it's not the
blood? I can't go through with this.
Nikita: Yes, you can.
Michael: No, I can't. I have to
get out of here.
Nikita: You will never make
it. They will find you!
Michael: How do you know?
Nikita: Take a look around.
Michael: You told me they are
going to kill me anyway. I got nothing to loose.
Nikita: I do.
From the intercom. "The mission is loading Michael . . . Michael?"
Nikita: (whispers) OK.
Michael: (repeats after
Nikita) OK."
Nikita: Let's just get through
this. We'll figure something out.
MISSION - GERMANY
Operations and Birkoff are in System's monitoring the mission's
progress.
Nikita is acting as Michael's chauffer.
Nikita: Use this to communicate
with me. (Nikita places something behind his ear.) Stay on
channel C, I will be the only one on it. Just make sure you remember
to turn off your main unit when you are talking to me. Trust your
instincts. (Michael steps out of the car.) Michael? (She
puts on his glasses for him.)
Michael: Right.
Michael enters the private club. Someone opens the door for him.
Michael: Thank you.
The host greets him.
Host: Mr. Bonnier, welcome to the
club. Mr. Marquez speaks highly of you. If there is anything you want
at all, please ask.
Michael: Thank you. (He pauses,
he has no clue what to do next.)
Host: Would you like anything
before you dine, a massage, a game of chess perhaps?
Michael: Whatever.
Birkoff: What are you waiting for
Michael?
Nikita: Ask for the library.
Michael: Where is the library?
Host: Sir?
Michael: I would like to rest for
a while with the afternoon paper.
The mystery twins are also in the building, exchanging something.
Operations: What is he doing?!
Birkoff: Michael, why aren't you
isolated?
Nikita: Michael, get rid of the
host.
Michael: Why didn't you tell me
that earlier?
Birkoff: Tell you what earlier?
Nikita: Michael, cut your main
transmitter, adjust your glasses, now.
Michael: Yeah.
Host: I'm sorry?
Nikita: Say you want some
privacy. Just ask where the library is.
Michael: I'm sorry, it's been a
busy day, just tell me where it is.
Host: Up the stairs, on the
left.
Birkoff: Ok, at the end of the
hall, turn right.
Nikita: Michael, turn your main
unit back on.
Birkoff: Michael?
Michael: What? I'm here.
Birkoff: Michael, what are you
doing? I said turn right.
Michael: But . . . he said the
library was on the left.
Birkoff: We are *not* going to the
library! Perez would be in one of the backrooms to the right.
Birkoff: (to all
operatives) Everyone to second mark. We're closing in.
Michael walks up to the backroom door. He tries to open it.
Michael: It's locked, what should
I do?
Birkoff: (getting really
impatient, sarcastically) Open it??!!
Nikita: Michael, use the
U-Key. It's in the jacket.
Operations and Birkoff listen in disbelief as Michael fumbles with the
U-Key.
Michael finally manages to get inside the backroom. Three guards are
sitting in the room.
Guard: How did you get in?
Michael: It was open.
Guard: This room is occupied.
Birkoff: Those are his men,
Michael, proceed.
Michael: I'm looking for the
library. (Ha, ha.)
Guard: I don't know where the
library is. Ask someone from out there.
Operations: What is he waiting
for?! Shoot the *damn* guards, Michael!
Perez walks in from one of the backrooms, he recognizes Michael.
Perez: What's going on? That's
him! Shoot him!
Michael shoots two of the three guards, but is shot in the stomach by
the other guard.
Birkoff: Abort surgical, everyone
in!
The surviving guard and Perez ran out of the room, but was stopped at
the staircase by Nikita. Nikita orders two operatives to take Perez,
while she runs to check on Michael.
She holds his face between her hands.
Nikita: Michael, Michael, it's
me. Stay with me.
MADELINE'S OFFICE
Operations and Madeline are review a tape of the mission. "How did you
get in? - It was open".
Operations: It's almost as if he
didn't know what to do.
Madeline: Or forgot. After Perez
gave us the coordinates on the press delivery system deal, I pressed
him about Michael.
Operations: Why?
Michael: Walter found traces of
some curious substances at the site of Michael's detainment.
Operations: What sort?
Michael: Limbic suppressors.
Operations: Memory?
Michael: It's possible. It would
explain the recent behavioral pattern that you been noticing.
Operations: Michael's mind been
tempered with. How could that have escaped us?
Michael: He had some help.
WALTER'S
Walter: How's he doing?
Nikita: He'll be OK. What did you
find out?
Walter gives a vial to Nikita.
Walter: Get this into his IV bag
as soon as possible.
Nikita: Will it work?
Walter: I don't know, but we're
running out of time. Madeline knows something's going on.
Nikita: How long does it take?
Walter: At least 8 hours, it needs
to saturate.
Nikita: Thanks, Walter.
Walter: Let me know .
MED LAB
It seems to me that they have gotten a new med lab since Out
Break. This one is much bigger and more hospital like, rather then the
white room.
Nikita (to nurse): Could
you give us a minute?
Nikita lightly touches Michael's face, he wakes up immediately. He
smiles at her.
Michael: How did we do?
Nikita: We did great. How are you
feeling?
Michael: Ok, I guess.
Nikita: Good.
Michael: And they still don't
know?
Nikita: No, but they will, if we
don't do something. Soon.
Michael: Is it going to work?
Nikita: I don't know.
Nikita injects the vial into the IV bag.
Michael: Have I ever told you that
I love you?
Nikita: Actually, no.
Michael: I do.
Nikita picks up his hand, and kisses the back of it.
On the catwalk.
Operations: Anything new on
Michael?
Madeline: Not yet. He's still too
groggy.
Operations: What's the plan?
Madeline: When he's strong enough,
we'll test him thoroughly.
Operations: Let them remain
convinced that they fooled us.
Russel passes by.
Russel: Hi.
Madeline: I thought you'd send him
to Uzbekistan.
Operations: I've changed my
mind.
Madeline: Why?
Operations: I took another look at
his panel. He's still single source in some areas.
Madeline: Good for him.
Operations: I'm having Christopher
prepare coq au vin a little later, would you like to join me?
Madeline: Not tonight, thank
you. (she'll be busy, or so it seems).
Operations walks to the top of a series of catwalks. He watches as
Madeline and Russel walk together on a catwalk below him, talking in
animation.
MED LAB
Michael awakens and tries to get up, before settling back in
pain.
Nikita: How are you feeling?
Michael: I've been shot.
Nikita: Yeah. You were shot in a
mission yesterday in Buckenwald, Germany.
Michael: No, we went to Amsterdam
(Netherlands). In a dance club, you were trapped in a room. I
broke position, then . . . Where is Operations? I need to
debrief.
Nikita: Something happened
Michael. You were grabbed in Amsterdam and taken to Perez. He did
something to your memory. You haven't been able to remember who you
were for the last three days.
Michael: Do they know?
Nikita: No, I protected you.
Michael: Thank you.
Nikita withdraws her hand, when she realizes that she has put it on
his arm. Nikita leaves. Michael looks after her, then closes the
eyes.
THE END
