Nikita walks in.
Nikita: Where's Michael?
Birkoff: He's down.
Nikita: He called me in.
Birkoff: Yeah, something came up. They switched him with Ferreira.
Nikita: Is Michael still here?
Birkoff: No. (to his collaborator) Hey, we don't need filters on this data.
Just dump it.
THE PERCH
Operations: It won't take long before she puts it together. If she hasn't
already.
Madeline: She hasn't.
Operations: Dechy, Pierce and Pollock were the only witnesses to her aborted
insurrection; now they're dead.
Madeline: No matter. She's going out this afternoon and that will be the end of
it.
Operations: And Michael's not a variable?
Madeline: I've made certain that he's occupied.
Operations: Has he seen the profile.
Madeline: Yes, before we changed it.
Operations: Good. Just make sure she doesn't return.
Madeline: She won't.
Operations watches Nikita walk across the comm center.
BRIEFING ROOM
Operations: Oversight has adopted a new strategy to contain the resurgence of
terrorist activity. We've been told to step up reconnaissance. Each cell will be
collecting source material on site from one of nine anti-western factions that
emerged over the past year. Birkoff.
Birkoff: I pulled up data on a group that calls itself New Path. They're based
in China, capitalized from North Korea. They haven't mobilized tactical yet
which makes them a perfect target for a pre-emptive.
Operations: Take what's there. We're looking for any kind of a link. Afterwards,
roll it up. I want 100% containment. Ferreira will be leading the team; you'll
be going out this afternoon.
Everyone leaves except Nikita and Ferreira.
Nikita: Well I'll sanitize the profile and bring it down.
Ferreira: No, I want you to prep. You'll be running point.
Nikita: I'm usually third position.
Ferreira: Not today.
MUNITIONS
Walter: Not the usual package today.
Nikita: I know. I'm on point.
Walter: Since when?
Nikita: Where's Michael?
Walter: I don't know, he left this morning. Why?
Nikita: I need to talk to him.
Walter: Talk to me.
Nikita: Walter, not this one.
Walter: It's about Adrian, isn't it?
Nikita: There were witnesses.
Walter: Were?
Nikita: Pollock… Pierce… Dechy.
Walter: Now look Sugar, just drop it. You're talking yourself into something
that isn't there. People die every day in this place. If they wanted you gone,
you'd be gone.
Nikita: Maybe not.
Ferreira: Is everybody checked in?
Walter: Yeah
Ferreira: Let's go. (they meet with the rest of the team) After Nikita finishes
the download, create an exit corridor to the north. Make sure you get an "A" and
"R" from Birkoff every thirty seconds.
Nikita: Sure we don't need field support?
Ferreira: No, we're going to run it cold.
SHANGHAI
Nikita is dressed like a Chinese woman. She is moving through a crowd; other operatives
including Ferreira are loading a truck. She takes a package inside a building
and hears a gun click; whirls and shoots a Chinese woman.
Nikita: (talking on comm set) Ferreira, this isn't clean.
Ferreira: No matter. Proceed.
Flash back to Section One; Operations checks his watch; then back to Nikita,
who pries up a floorboard and connects an electronic device.
Nikita: I'm sending.
Ferreira: Birkoff, we're getting it?
Birkoff: (at Section) Yeah, this looks like it. Get your people out.
Operations: Birkoff, I need you up here.
Birkoff: Yes sir.
Back in Shanghai.
Ferreira: Nikita, hold position.
Nikita: Hold position? Why?
Ferreira: We have to identify some data.
Nikita: Birkoff, B channel (Birkoff is not at his post and does not hear her)
Ferreira, why isn't Birkoff looped in?
Ferreira: I don't know, he should be.
Nikita: Well he's not.
Ferreira: Let me check.
Men come running towards Nikita.
Man: There she is - get her!
Nikita runs, they shoot. She shoots back. She runs behind a corner; they duck
behind barrels and boxes. She throws her Chinese hat out; they rise to look and
she blasts them. She has stripped down to her mission gear and shoots back. She
runs to an elevator and takes out two more men by slamming a double door into
them. She slides down a conveyor belt as a man shoots at her; she's shooting at
them as she does so. She sees another man and blasts at him. The assassins are
everywhere. She leaps out a window, lands on a roof. She sees one of the men get
into a car below; she jumps on the car and blows the man away through the back
window. Ferreira shoots at her himself but she doesn't see it and he hits a
bystander. Nikita gets to the waiting truck.
Nikita: You said it was clean!
Ferreira: Hey, it's what they gave me. Get out, come on.
MADELINE'S OFFICE
Madeline is tending an orchid on a plant stand in the
middle of the room.
Operations: (enters, angry) Why is she still alive?
Madeline: Apparently, we trained her too well. (completely calm, unfazed)
Operations: George is starting to poke around.
Madeline: Has he mentioned Adrian?
Operations: Her name's come up. He would not be happy if he knew the details.
Madeline: (smiles) No, he wouldn't.
Operations: Maybe we're going about this in the wrong way. We should just deal
with this internally.
Madeline: Don't get impatient. It's unfortunate but it was a one time event. The
percentages are on our side; it'll be taken care of soon.
Operations: (goes to leave then pauses) I don't want Michael anywhere near here
until it's done.
Madeline: He won't be.
Operations: What's going on with Michael's situation?
Madeline: He's getting some positive
indications. We should be able to move soon.
She smiles; he leaves.
VAN ACCESS
The team returns from Shanghai.
Ferreira: You should go down to Medical, get that checked out. (He lifts
Nikita's hand, it's bandaged)
Nikita: Thanks, Chris - I will.
Ferreira: Nikita. I was wrong about the intel. We should have done a
walk-through first.
Nikita: You were just following profile. It wasn't your fault. I'll see you
later.
Ferreira: Probably not. We're not going back out.
Nikita: (turns, smiles) I meant, you know, just you and me.
He gives her a "look" then walks away but he turns to look at her again as he
does so. Nikita comes face to face with Madeline.
Madeline: I apologize. We had incorrect information. You should never have gone
in there alone. (Madeline walks away but Nikita speaks.)
Nikita: I haven't seen Michael in a while. Has he been reassigned somewhere
else?
Madeline: No.
Nikita: Where is he?
Madeline: (still not facing Nikita) Home, I think.
Nikita: Home?
COMM CENTER
Nikita approaches Birkoff. Birkoff watches and looks at
Operations up in the loft.
NIKITA'S APARTMENT
Birkoff is there.
Birkoff: Dechy and Pierce didn't die by accident. Neither did Pollock. Neither
will you.
Nikita: So Shanghai wasn't an accident.
Birkoff: No. Operations pulled me away right before everything went down. That's
why you couldn't reach me.
Nikita: Is Michael part of this?
Birkoff: I don't think so.
Nikita: But you don't know?
Birkoff: I'm not sure. I raked the system, all of it. This is the first time,
since I've been here, that Operations and Madeline are vulnerable.
Nikita: To what?
Birkoff: Oversight.
Nikita: Oversight. What exactly is Oversight?
Birkoff: It's the board. The only entity Operations has to answer to.
Nikita: Can they shut down the Section? Can they shut down Section?
Birkoff: More like incinerate. (Nikita stands up)
Nikita: What can we do?
Birkoff: The first thing we need to do is figure out how to keep you alive for
the next couple of days. (He stands up and strokes her arm.) If we could
find Michael, that would help.
Nikita: Find Michael? I thought you said he was down?
Birkoff: No. They have him parked somewhere. I can't get an address. Maybe you
can.
COMM CENTER
Nikita comes up to Ferreira.
Nikita: Hey, Chris.
Ferreira: What's doing?
Nikita: (leans over a computer) Just leafing through some DOD frames. Hey,
Chris, do you know the difference between armored transport and a civilian at
Mag 25?
Ferreira: Yeah, why?
Nikita: Could you check this out? (she holds out the chair, he slides into it
and she pushes him up to the screen, leaning over her)
Ferreira: Which one?
Nikita: Right there.
Ferreira: (types) Civilian.
Nikita: You sure? What about that shadow?
Flash to Birkoff, doing something.
Ferreira: Nah, it's just water. (A beam gleams in his eyeball, he doesn't
notice.) Definitely civilian.
Birkoff: (to Nikita, she can hear him) OK, I've got it.
Nikita: (to Ferreira) Thanks.
Ferreira: So uh, still want to get together?
Nikita: Sure.
Ferreira: How about tonight?
Nikita: Oh, I can't tonight. Tomorrow night?
Ferreira: Tomorrow then.
Nikita: Right.
Nikita leaves, walks down the hallway and Birkoff passes something to her as
they pass. She rounds the corner and slams headlong into Operations.
Nikita: Oh, excuse me, sorry.
He gives her a look but says nothing. She
continues on to the classified levels she was in during last season's finale.
She types in a question that says "Where does Michael Samuelle live?" It answers
Access Denied until she goes to the retinal scan and holds up the slide of
Ferreira's eyeball.
OUTSIDE
Nikita is driving along in that ever so nice black
convertible of hers. She pulls up to a nice, though not extremely opulent, three
story home. Two cars are parked outside. She goes to the door and knocks. A
woman answers, extremely beautiful, east Indian in ethnicity.
Elena: Yes?
Nikita: Hey. I'm looking for a friend of mine, I'm not sure this is the right
address...
Elena: Who is it you're looking for? (a small boy runs up behind her)
Adam: Mommy, come on, it's your turn!
Elena: I'll be right there, sweetheart. (to Nikita) I'm sorry, who did you want?
Nikita: No, I'm sorry, I have the wrong house. I'm sorry for bothering you. (she
turns)
Adam: Daddy, can we go to the park now?
Michael: (from inside the house) Later, let's finish the game first. (Nikita
stops in her tracks, turns. Michael stands there with the boy in his arms.)
Nikita: Michael. (Their eyes lock; he is shocked. She plasters a fake smile on
her face.)
Elena: Do you know her, Michael?
Nikita: Hello. (big phony smile)
Michael: (equally big phony smile) (to his son) Go inside. (He puts the boy down
and he runs back inside) (to Nikita ) What are you doing here?
Nikita: I found out where you were and… (stumbling)
Michael: You must have heard from Aunt Reba?
Nikita: Yeah, I did. She's great, she sends her love.
Michael: It's been years.
Nikita: (laughs) Yeah.
Michael: This is my wife, Elena.
Nikita: Nikita (extends her hand and they shake)
Elena: Hello.
Michael: Nikita's a cousin of sorts. We're related through my stepfather.
Elena: Why didn't you say so? Come in.
Nikita: Thank you.
Michael: (looks relieved that she's alive even if he's not thrilled she's there)
It's good to see you again. (he hugs her)
Nikita: And you too.
Elena: Please, have a seat. (Adam is playing a video game, it's noisy)
Michael: Adam, please turn that off and go upstairs.
Adam: I want to finish.
Michael: Now. Do it now.
Adam: But I want to stay with you.
Michael: You can't.
Elena: What's wrong, Michael? Why can't he stay down here?
Michael: 'Cause I want him upstairs.
Elena: Go upstairs, sweetheart, we'll come up in a few minutes.
Nikita: I didn't know you had a child, Michael.
Michael: A lot of time has passed.
Elena: I'm sorry, I haven't even offered you anything. Are you hungry?
Nikita: A drink would be fine.
Elena: Juice, coffee, tea?
Nikita: Tea would be fine.
Elena: How about you, Michael?
Michael: Nothing. (Elena leaves) What are you doing here?
Nikita: Is this for real? (he says nothing) There's something going on in
Section. I need your help.
Michael: What's the problem?
Nikita: Pierce and Dechy are dead. Operations is trying to kill me. He wants to
wipe out everyone who witnessed Adrian.
Michael: Who do you report to?
Nikita: Ferreira.
Michael: Are you working him?
Nikita: Yes.
Michael: When you finish your tea, make an excuse to leave. I'll send you a
contact point.
Elena: (from the kitchen) Michael, would you give me a hand please?
Michael: Of course.
OUTSIDE
Evening. Michael, on a motorcycle, pulls up. Nikita is leaning on her
car.
Nikita: What's going on with the wife and child?
Michael: We'll talk about it later. What's your status?
Nikita: I'm inside for another day or two.
Michael: You said Pierce and Dechy. What about Pollock?
Nikita: Dead. Birkoff raked the system. He thinks Operations and Madeline are
worried about Oversight.
Michael: What else does Birkoff know?
Nikita: Nothing more than I know.
Michael: Tell me about Ferreira.
Nikita: I'm working with him. I don't trust him.
Michael: Can you get him out of Section?
Nikita: Yeah, I can.
Michael: Get him to your apartment. Tell
Birkoff to re-route a deep channel.
Michael gets back on his cycle and leaves.
MADELINE'S OFFICE
Operations: (voice comes on) Madeline, are you there?
Madeline: Yes, what is it?
Operations: Can you come up to Committee?
Madeline: Committee?
Operations: Yes. George is here.
Madeline: (looking concerned) I'll be right up.
COMMITTEE
George and Operations talking.
Operations: That order is being executed.
I'm focusing on the new mission.
George: India and Pakistan should be next on the list.
I'm sure we can do something.
George turns as Madeline approaches.
George: Madeline.
Madeline: Hello, George.
He kisses her on both cheeks, exactly as Operations
did to Adrian in End Game.
George: You look well.
Madeline: We weren't expecting you.
George: I had some business in the country.
Operations: (to Madeline) We were just discussing India and Pakistan.
George: We're moving things around. You may be asked to pitch in.
Madeline: Of course.
George: (nods) I heard an interesting rumor the other day.
Operations: What was that?
George: That Adrian was here.
Operations: Our Adrian?
George: My Adrian.
Operations: That is an interesting rumor. No, I haven't seen Adrian in over ten
years. (He looks at Madeline, who turns to look at him) How is she doing?
George: I believe she's dead.
Operations: What makes you think that?
George: We keep tabs on these things.
Madeline: Would you like us to look into it for you? I have resources that I-
George: (interrupts her) I came here to tell you this because as you know,
Adrian is very dear to me. If I discover that any harm has come to her and that
Section One played even a minor role, I will crush you both, figuratively and
literally. (very menacingly, staring directly at Madeline who shows nothing)
Well, I have to be in Stockholm
in an hour. I'm sorry I can't stay around and chat.
Operations: George.
He ignores him and leaves. Operations and Madeline look at
each other.
NIKITA'S APARTMENT
Nikita and Ferreira enter.
Nikita: (smiling) It's true, why don't you believe me?
Ferreira: Because you're not the type.
Nikita: Oh really?
Ferreira: No.
Nikita: So what type am I? (He grabs her and kisses her; she pushes him away) I
didn't give you permission to do that.
Ferreira: I don't need permission. I'm the team leader, you do what I say.
Nikita: Really? (teasing him)
Ferreira: Yeah. (laughing)
Nikita: So give me a command.
Ferreira: Shut up. (He kisses her again. She draws back and slaps him lightly)
Hey!
Nikita: Oooh! (still teasingly, not serious about her resistance… She starts to
run her hands down her body.)
Ferreira: Oh, yeah. (She unzips her skirt and pushes it down to reveal a strip
of bare midriff, flirting with him) You're bad. (He doesn't see
the door open behind him)
Michael: Hello, Chris. (Michael
knocks his gun from his hand and pushes him to the ground).
Ferreira: What is this? (Birkoff appears and puts
down a laptop in front of him)
Birkoff: I've unlocked a half dozen security two files. Each contains a
treasonous breach which would result in immediate cancellation. They're all
linked to you by an iris match.
Ferreira: I didn't access those files and you know it.
Birkoff: That's true. But it would take two
weeks to prove that. By then, you'd be dead.
Ferreira: So what do you want from me?
COMM CENTER
Birkoff looking at a screen.
Birkoff: (into his comm set) Sir? We have another window surfacing.
Operations: (from the Perch) Where?
Birkoff: Near Barcelona.
Operations: Prep it.
MADELINE'S OFFICE
Madeline: So tell me about last night.
Ferreira: We went out to dinner, then back to her place.
Madeline: Did you have sex with her?
Ferreira: No.
Madeline: Why not?
Ferreira: She wouldn't let me. I didn't want to push it.
Madeline: What did she say about Michael?
Ferreira: Well, she's suspicious.
Madeline: Of what?
Ferreira: She thinks you might have cancelled Michael.
Madeline: Were those her exact words?
Ferreira: No, she was playing it pretty close.
Madeline: What did she say exactly?
Ferreira: That it's strange that Michael
hasn't been around. She asked if I'd seen his name on any upcoming profiles.
Madeline turns to her screen and
Ferreira puts a bug on the underside of her chair.
Madeline: How much resistance do you
expect she'll give to the Barcelona profile?
Ferreira: Some, but I'll go in with her. We'll be fine.
Madeline: Good. (gives him a look) No mistakes this time.
Ferreira: No, it'll be taken care of. (He leaves, she turns back to her screen)
SECTION ONE
Birkoff entering a restricted area.
VAN ACCESS
The team going out. Ferreira, Nikita and other operatives.
Ferreira: We're taking out the tracking station with air tactical. You'll
activate the transmitter so comm can get a signature.
Nikita: What about hostiles?
Ferreira: Take them alive. We'll want a full debrief. Defense should be light.
Meanwhile Birkoff is uploading some data to a computer located in the elevator to the Perch.
Operations is on his way there.
Birkoff: (whispering) Come on, come
on, come on.
The door opens, Operations is
there with his back to it. He turns as Birkoff goes to leave.
Operations: Birkoff! (Birkoff turns, looks scared.) Don't you have a mission?
Birkoff: They're en route. It goes live in twenty minutes. (Birkoff walks away)
OUTSIDE
Michael on a motorcycle, talking to Birkoff on his comm set.
Michael: Birkoff?
Birkoff: I'm here.
Michael: Did you send it?
Birkoff: Barely. Operations almost caught me.
Michael: Will Oversight be able to trace it to us?
Birkoff: No, I scrambled it.
Michael: What about the mission?
Birkoff: It's airtight. She's not getting out alive.
Michael: How much time?
Birkoff: She just crossed the inflection point.
Michael: Can you slow it down?
Birkoff: No.
BARCELONA
A truck is driving along. It drives up to a warehouse
where it is seen by a security camera. Nikita and Ferreira are inside.
Nikita: Delivery.
Guard: Clear. (The door opens)
Nikita: (to Ferreira) OK.
He drives the truck inside the warehouse. Flash to a plane over water.
Pilot: Air tactical on approach.
Ferreira: (on comm set to Birkoff) What do you have Birkoff?
Birkoff: (to Ferreira) I'm counting four inside. Bring them out.
Operations: (from the Perch) Birkoff, where's air tactical?
Birkoff: They're in pattern.
Inside the warehouse, they exit the truck.
Ferreira: Go!
They run into the warehouse. Ferreira is watching the guard, Nikita behind
him.
Ferreira: Team two, go. (The guard is taken out; Ferreira nods to Nikita)
Get them out of here. Activate.
Nikita goes to the computer and punches buttons.
Nikita: Birkoff, am I safe?
Birkoff: I don't know.
MADELINE'S OFFICE
Michael enters.
Madeline: What are you doing here?
Michael: I'm going to offer you an alternative.
Madeline: To what?
Michael: I don't think you want to see the Section destroyed. But that is what
will happen if you don't abort this mission.
Madeline: (rises, walks past Michael) Why? Because you think this (holds up the
bug) made a difference? (she walks behind him) Next time, Michael,
pick your conspirators more carefully. We fed Birkoff false information. You'll
never be able to link us to Adrian's death. Not as long as I'm here.
She walks past him
and out the door.
BARCELONA
Ferreira locks the door to Nikita. She realizes she is trapped in the room. Ferreira leaves.
She shoots at the window but the glass is bulletproof. She can't escape.
THE PERCH
Operations is on a cell phone.
Operations: Yes George? It doesn't sound right, what's your source?
No, I'm not doubting it, I... (pause) Yes. Of course. (to his console) Birkoff, get me air
tactical.
Birkoff: Yes, sir.
Operations: (to air tactical) I'm updating your coordinates. Check your screens.
Pilot: We have a new target?
Operations: Yes.
BARCELONA
Nikita is trapped. Ferreira heads for the truck.
Ferreira: Okay, we're out.
SECTION ONE
Birkoff: Anytime. (to Operations)
Operations: Fire missile.
Flash to all the faces: Birkoff. Madeline, Michael, Operations, Nikita, with a
target superimposed over all of them. Birkoff sees the strike on his screen.
Michael swallows hard. Flames. The truck is burning. Nikita is alive.
COMMITTEE
Nikita sits in the Committee area with her eyes closed. Operations
and Madeline approach.
Nikita: You going to kill me?
Operations: Adrian and the Gemstone file are behind us. A full inquiry was made
and there was no connection between her death and Section One. Oversight is no
longer interested in this matter.
Nikita: You killed the rest of my team?
Madeline: They were all abeyance operatives.
Nikita: And Ferreira?
Madeline: He as well. It's true our original intention was to eliminate you.
That's been changed.
Nikita: (Stands and looks Madeline in the eye) Why?
Operations: You're no longer a threat to us.
Madeline: And your value as an operative remains strong. That will be all.
(Nikita stares hard at Madeline, whose face is blank. Then she deliberately
steps between them, facing Operations, to leave. Operations walks a few steps
from Madeline but stops when she speaks.) She and Michael must have had help
from Birkoff. He's the only one who could have gotten through to George like he
did.
Operations: What does Michael think?
Madeline: I told him we found the bug Ferreira planted in my office before any
damage was done.
Operations: Did he believe it?
Madeline: Yes, at the time.
But he'll be wondering why we spared Nikita. What would you like done?
Operations: (turns back toward Madeline)
We can't do anything about Nikita... yet.
George is still watching. And Michael's current status can't be tampered with. The best we can do
is keep them from knowing we're still vulnerable.
Madeline: What about Birkoff?
Operations: No, no, he'd be too hard to replace. I can control him.
Madeline: (smiles at him) We've been through worse.
Operations smiles and nods.
COMM CENTER
Nikita walks up to Michael and they walk together.
Michael: How did it go?
Nikita: I'm still alive. Did they speak to you?
Michael: Yes.
Nikita: What do you think they'll do?
Michael: Nothing for now.
Nikita: Michael... your marriage to Elena. What is it?
Michael: It's a mission.
Nikita: She an operative?
Michael: No.
Nikita: She doesn't know.
Michael: No. We're after her father.
Nikita: So you're deceiving her to secure your cover? (Michael gives her
the blank stare.) Is the child yours?
Michael: Yes.
They hold a long look.
