301 Looking for Michael: Many films with similar titles, the earliest being "Looking for John Smith" from 1906, and the latest "Looking for Kitty", 2004. Mentionable "Desperately Seeking Susan", 1985, starring Madonna and Rosanna Arquette, as Nikita is certainly desperately looking for Michael.

302 Someone Else's Shadow:
"Living in someone else's shadow" is a common expression describing a big influence or domination of someone else over the subject. Also a tag game.

303 Opening Night Jitters:
"Jitters" is a play by Canadian writer David French, first played in 1979. David French is also the name of a character in Time Out of Mind.

304 Gates of Hell:
The title of a sculpture by A. Rodin, exposed in 1972, inspired by the Divine Commedy by Dante. It also features in many song lyrics. A Bible citation also mentions them: "Jesus replied, 'Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades [Hell] will not overcome it.'" (Matthew 16:13-18).

305 Imitation of Death:
Book by Lester del Rey, 1950. Also an expression making reference to a defence mechanism where an animal simulates its own death to repel a predator.
Another explanation makes reference to robots sometimes being designated as imitations of life, being dead things themselves, so the kids being transformed into robots are an imitation of death.
Initial title: "New and Improved".


306 Love and Country:
"For Love and Country!" is a warrior battle cry cited in Braveheart by and with Mel Gibson, 1995. Also a book by Christina Adam, 2003. Initial title: "No Loose Ends".

307 Cat and Mouse:
Reference to a children's game. Also a book by Alec Cross, 1998. Another mention is the "Cat and Mouse Act", a name given in 1913 to a government practice dealing with protesters on hunger strike.

308 Outside the Box:
Expression meaning thinking beyond the parameters of human consciousness and experience - to see beyond the norm - to be a visionary - to activate your DNA. We exist inside the box - the physical plane - but we soon evolve our conscious awareness back to its source of creation - outside the box.

A film from 1988 by director Eleanor Gaver, staring Michelle Johnson.

310 Under the Influence:
Common term used for people driving under the influence of alcohol or of controlled substances (drugs). Also a book with the title "Under the Influence : A Guide to the Myths and Realities of Alcoholism" by J. R. Milam and K. Ketcham, 1984.

311 Walk on By:
A song by Dionne Warwick, from the LP "Make Way For Dionne Warwick" (1964). Latest reprise by Cindy Lauper, on the album "At Last", 2003.

The level of sound at which the listener begins to feel physical pain. This occurs between approximately 115 and 140 dB.

313 Beyond the Pale:
Expression meaning behavior beyond acceptable limits. Also a Canadian klezmer - folk group from Toronto, formed in 1998, debut CD "Routes", 2001.

314 Hand to Hand:
A defensive combat style.

315 Before I Sleep:
The closest reference is "Miles to Go Before I Sleep", words from the poem "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening," by Robert Frost. Also the title of a movie from 1975, starring Martin Balsam. The title of a Celine Dion song more recently.

316 I Remember Paris:
A famous line from the movie Casablanca, 1942. Rick Blaine (Humphrey Bogart): "I remember Paris perfectly. The Germans wore grey, you wore blue."

317 All Good Things:
This could mean two things, "All good things come to those who wait" or "All good things must come to an end". Up to you to decide. Or maybe it means both things which also makes sense.

318 Third Party Ripoff:
From a line of Michael in the script: "We'll make it look like a third party ripoff. I need 60 seconds of fire time in a pocket."

319 Any Means Necessary:
"By Any Means Necessary" was Malcom X's most famous slogan. Used extenssively since then about political subjects.

320 Three Eyed Turtle:
A sexual position. Also, an episode of Miami Vice, first aired in 1984.

321 Playing with Fire:
A book "Julie Taymor : Playing with Fire" by Julie Taymor, Eileen Blumenthal, 1999.

322 On Borrowed Time:
A B&W movie from 1939 starring Lionel Barrymore. An old man caring for his orphaned grandson is confronted by Death and manages to trick it.
