Wicked Games

Chapter 4

Nikita leaned back in her chair; her fingertips slowly circled her temples as she tried to massage away the pounding headache, which threatened to escalate into a full blown migraine.

Damn Michael, how could he do this to me?" She mumbled. "Less than 24 hours ago we made love and promised to love one another till the end of time. Now .look at him, the jerk!” She spat out. “Another pretty face is brought into Section and he can't keep his eyes in his head or his hands in his pockets." Getting angrier by the second, Nikita slammed her laptop closed, kicked her chair away and left her office in search of Michael.

In Madeline's office Operation's sat facing her across her desk. They had just finished up the mission reviews for the week when Operation's finally deciding to push Madeline's agenda for the morning in another direction. "What's the latest on our guest in MedBay?"

Madeline, leaning back in her chair, steepled her fingers, looked directly into Operation's steely blue gaze and replied, "She’s doing well, and after we finish here I plan to start her interrogation. I do feel that Michael made the right decision in bringing her in."

“Why's that?" Operation's queried.

"Her injuries for one, they're not consistent with our profile. For one, they occurred prior to our team's arrival, they are defensive wounds as well as the marks on her wrists and ankles. She was restrained at some time. Lastly, there's this....."

Reaching into her desk drawer Madeline pulled out a micro-disk and slid it over to Operation's. "We found it hidden in her clothing."

Operation's stood in agitation started to pace back and forth. He finally stopped in front of Madeline's desk slammed his hands down and hissed vehemently, "just when were you going to inform me about this Madeline, have you forgotten who is in charge here?"

Madeline, unperturbed looked directly into Operation's steely blue gaze and sweetly replied, "as soon as I verified what was on the disk. There is no need to get our hopes up if it was nothing."

Frustrated, Operation's ground out through clenched teeth, "well...I'm waiting, what is on it?"

Madeline paled slightly and answered, "I'm sorry Paul, it's encrypted and Birkoff can't break the code...that's why I need to start my interrogation as soon as possible."

Without moving an inch away from Madeline's face, almost caressing her with his breath he softly spoke, "what are you waiting for? I'm giving you one hour to get me some answers before your pretty little ass ends up in a cold, steel chair in the white room and I promise you a very painful time before I personally cancel you...is that understood?"

The only visible reaction to Operation's threat from Madeline before she answered was a slight paling of her face as she said yes. With his ultimatum delivered, Operation's stormed out of her office to the Perch.

Taking a moment to collect herself Madeline rapidly keyed in some numbers on her intercom and spoke quietly, but firmly..."Doctor, I want you to wake our patient up now, I'll be there in 5 minutes.”

Cutting the connection, Madeline stood up. Her mind furiously at work as she plotted the best way to get the Intel she needed in the short time she had.
